The countdown has begun. The Route 66 Fun Run is now but a month away and the question is if the high price of gas will dampen the festivities.

Over the years I have experienced the Fun Run from a number of perspectives with an equal number of thoughts about the event. This year, however, I will be seeing it from a new angle covering it for Cars & Parts.
As it stands now the plan is to tag along in Barney the Wonder Truck. If you aren’t familiar with old Barney here he is on an original alignment of legendary Route 66 west of Kingman.

Now, a trivia question for those familiar with Kingman or that will be participating in the Fun Run? This picture was taken about 1946. Though slightly modified the building still remains an icon of the highway. Instead of gasoline it is now root beer that has travelers stopping by. Any guesses?
