UPDATES FROM ROUTE 66, THE LINCOLN HIGHWAY, AND THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

http://www.route66infocenter.com/For fans of Route 66, Ron, “The Tatoo Man”, is a fixture especially for those familiar with Afton Station in Oklahoma. Well, Ron is down sick and would most likely appreciate some encouragement from those who enjoy the open road as much as he does.

In continuation of the “shamless self promotion” theme I made the front page of the Kingman Daily Miner. Pardon the pained look but the dentist visit isn’t until Monday and as noted previously I smacked myself in the face with a chain last week.
The next item on the list pertains to the annual Route 66 Fun, the best celebration of America’s love affair with the automobile and iconic Route 66 that I am aware of. For the first time in the history of the event, I will not be able to attend this year as we will be out of town, which means my son again gets a small two day, two night vacation complete with satellite television and a couple of moth eaten old cats as he assumes the role of caretaker while we are away.
For this adventure we again motor west as I have been selected to be one of the featured authors for Road Trip Day at historic AutoBooks AeroBooks in Burbank on May 1. So, if you are unable to attend the festivities at the Fun Run and find yourself in the Los Angeles area, perhaps this might be a fun filled alternative.
In answer to a question often asked when I announce forthcoming travel plans, no, we will not be taking Route 66, at least on the first leg of the trip. Time will be a factor on our trip to Burbank as this will be a 365 mile drive after work.
The return leg is another matter. I am quite sure we will be meandering back on at least one section in California. In particular, I would like to explore Daggett in a bit more detail.
We have added a larger and more detailed calendar of events, and an enlarged photo gallery of scenes along Route 66 and the road less traveled, both with pop up detail and captions, to the companion website, Route 66 Info Center. As always, thoughts, ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
On a closing note for the day, if you are planning a trip to the KIngman area you might want to check out, or become a fan of, the Destination Kingman group on Facebook. Updated daily with information about current events as well as area toruism this might be a great place to begin planning that next big adventure.
