AND THE EXCITEMENT BUILDS
Details about the exciting new contest from 66 The Mother Road are available in the latest issue of this online magazine. With an ever growing list of prizes that already include lodging at the Wagon Wheel Motel and Wigwam Motel, a Kindle Fire, passes to Grand Canyon Caverns, and signed copies of books by me as well as Jim Ross, Joe Sonderman, and Jerry McClanahan, all entrants will be counting the days to Cuba Fest in October where the winners will be announced.
This is also an incredible opportunity for businesses and museums along the highway to garner some international attention and provide a service that is sure to enhance the Route 66 experience for enthusiasts. Details on how to use this contest to shine the light on your business are also included in the March issue.
In addition to contest information, this issue features articles by Joe Sonderman, Rich Dinkela, and other acclaimed authors. For this edition I penned a piece on two of the most popular ghost towns along Route 66, Endee, New Mexico and Glenrio, Texas.
To say I become more and more excited about this publication with each issue would be akin to saying Route 66 in Chicago isn’t very fun to explore in January. This has nothing to do with my involvement as a contributor but because the publication provides a service for all aspects of the Route 66 community.
This, however, is but a small part of the excitement that looms on the horizon along Route 66 this year. Lets see, we have the Route 66 Fun Run, the Red Carpet tour in Illinois, KABAM in Kingman (an event in May that I recommend), Wheels on 66 in Tucumcari as part of the New Mexico Motor Tour, the International Route 66 Festival in Victorville, and, of course, Cuba Fest.
All of this means new opportunity for travel (in spite of soaring gasoline prices), renewing old acquaintances, making new friends, and sharing the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts of America’s most famous highway. Then there is the debut of the Route 66 encyclopedia, something I am quite eager to introduce and share.
On the Route 66 front, 2012 is shaping up to be a rather exciting year. On the personal front…Well, that is shaping up to be even more exciting but that is story for another day or best left untold.
