If you think of neon and tail fins when the conversation turns to Route 66, today’s program will be a surpise. Today we visit with Geoff Ladd, Assistant Director, Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway and discuss the innovative Route 66 Monarch Flyway project that links conservation and building a sense of community with the most famous highway in the world.
The Illinois Monarch Project that debuted on November 18th, 2020, is a Route 66 centered 66-mile-wide corridor that stretches from Chicago to St. Louis across the state of Illinois. By planting native wildflowers and restoring monarch butterfly habitat a bit of color is added to the roadside, and a threatened species is brought back from the brink.
