I need to get a wiggle on to make sure that I am ready for June.

Get a wiggle on. The sun was cresting the horizon during the morning walkabout when I got a bee in my bonnet. I had best get the wiggle on if deadlines were going to be met, and if I was going to be ready for the upcoming programs.

Get A Wiggle On

On the evening of May 24th, I am to be on stage with Bob Boze Bell of True West magazine. I am curious to see if we can fill the house. The old Elks Theatre in the historic heart of Prescott, Arizona will be one of the largest venues I have ever played. Aside from providing a bit of road trip and smile inducing inspiration, we will be signing books.

And then a couple weeks later I have a scheduled appearance at the New Mexico Mining Museum in Grants, New Mexico. It is the first program scheduled on the trip to the AAA Route 66 Road Fest in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

However, before turning my full attention to those programs I need to finish the photo files and sidebars for the next book, a Route 66 anthology. This is a project that I am very excited about.

Route 66 Anthology

The anthology is a centennial project. So, it is a great opportunity to share the highways history, as well as its prehistory and some insight into its future. But what makes this project really exciting for me is that it I am working wth good friends that happen to be superb writers. Each is possessed with a passion for preserving and sharing Route 66 history.

The book will have ten chapters. I am writing the chapters on the highways prehistory, on Arizona, and on California. And I will write the closing for the final chapter about the Route 66 renaissance and the highways future. This last chapter will have a European perspective. It is being written by Dries Bessels, a founding member of the Dutch Route 66 Association.

I am eager to see this book in print. And I am eager to use it to put the spotlight on this amazing highway, its culture, and the people that infuse it with infectious magic.

The Clock Is Ticking

Now I am used to that awakening, that sense of urgency. It happens with every project when I get close to a deadline. Still, it then becomes a challenge to keep things balanced. There is a need to get the wiggle on and make every minute of work productive, which is sometimes a challenge.

I never want to finish a project with a lick and a promise. But that happens if you start to rush rather than focus.

So, I take time for a walkabout and to visit with friends. And I also keep an eye on Jim Hinckley’s America, and why we do what we do.

So, if our paths cross and I seem a bit distracted, please accept my apologies. The clock is ticking.
