Celebrating 2025: Stories from the Road

The stories Coffee With Jim showcased this year span a diverse array of voices and journeys:

  • Steve Purdy, a veteran writer, photographer, producer, and historian whose Mascots in Motion art book celebrates over 40 years capturing the poetry of automotive design. From hood ornaments to the details that make classic cars rolling sculpture we had quite the conversation. This program was chock full of stories about Jay Leno, museums, automotive design, and the fascinating people that transformed the auto industry.
  • Mayor Janet Jernigan of Needles, California, brought local leadership perspective to Route 66 planning, preservation, and tourism and economic development. We also discussed the upcoming Route 66 Info Fair scheduled for February 14, 2026.
  • Richard Lentinello, editor and contributor to Crankshaft Magazine. He shared his lifelong love of automotive culture from collector cars to the stories of the people that designed and built them.
  • Elizabeth Olwig of the Missouri Route 66 Association and Rhys Martin, President of the Oklahoma Route 66 Asociation shared how small towns and regional groups keep the spirit of the road alive.
  • Dan Smilie of Tin Can Tourists and Lisa Misajet of the Mojave Desert Cultural Association brought travel subculture and regional flavor to the table.

Each guest has helped Coffee With Jim expand from a podcast into a community gathering. With their contributions it has evolved into a place where history, travel, and inspiration intersect.
