Pull up a chair. The pie is fresh and the coffee hot. It’s a virtual version of the neighborhood diner.
Every Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m. Arizona time, pour yourself a cup of coffee and meet your road‑trip inspiring neighbor at Coffee With Jim, our weekly livestream podcast on Podbean. This podcast is the modern version of that old time diner where folks would gather to laugh, share a bit of local history, and to plot their next adventure. It’s a reflect of our passion for sharing America’s story and inspiring road trips.
If you love Route 66, quirky roadside stops, community development stories, and road‑trips, you’re in the right place. Our podcast is built on the idea that America’s story isn’t just in textbooks. It’s written in the diners, ghost towns, Harvey Houses, historic districts, and in the people who carry on traditions.
Upcoming Programs (That You Won’t Want to Miss!)
While we’re always providing program updates with regular blog posts at jimhinckleysamerica.com, here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up on Coffee With Jim:
- Sunday, August 3 – Anthony Arno best known for the acclaimed Route 66 Podcast and the innovative Route 66 scholarship program. This, however, is just one part of Arno’s story. He has bicycled across America, worked as a social worker with disabled adults, and began his teaching career in Brooklyn. In the 1990’s he used Route 66 as a foundation to teach several subjects while his students bicycled 2000 miles aboard an exercise bicycle in the back of the classroom. This promises to be an inspiring program!
- Sunday, August 10 – Public art from murals to sculpture transforms a community. Its creation fuels development of a sense of community. The projects completion transforms the community into a destination. Our guest for this morning program is acclaimed mural artist Ray Harvey. He has been a featured artist for the Missouri Arts Council and completed projects the Chase Park Plaza Hotel, Harpercollins Publishing, Tin Can Alley on 66, and the Viva Cuba Mural Project in Cuba, Missouri.
- Sunday, August 17 – On today’s program we discover the magic of Joplin, Missouri with Convention & Visitors Bureau Director Patrick Tuttle as our guide. With an eye on the fast approaching Route 66 centennial, Tuttle and his pasionate team are working hard to make this historic community a destination for Route 66 enthusiasts in 2026. If you are looking for some road trip, or community development, inspiration, this program is for you!
These upcoming shows reflect our passion for sharing America’s story, and telling people where to go. And they are an example of how we help listeners imagine their next road trip or community-transforming project.
A Taste of Adventure
Need added inspiration to join us on Sunday mornings? Here are five past programs that exemplify our passion for blending history, community, road‑trip fun, and practical inspiration:
1. July 20, 2025 — Route 66, Cafés & Historic Preservation
I talked with Elizabeth Olwig of the Route 66 Association of Missouri. We virtually explored vintage cafés—like Lewis Cafe (1938) and the new Sweetie Pies Amish Bakery & Cafe. And we talked about historic district revitalization challenges, the upcoming Route 66 centennial, and how to ignite a new generation’s appreciation for old‑school Americana.
2. July 13, 2025 — The Original Las Vegas: A Hidden Small‑Town Gem
With guide Kathleen Hendrickson, we discovered the historic heart of the original Las Vegas. This New Mexico time capsule is home to almost 1,000 National Register buildings. There is also a vintage drive‑in theater, a renovated Harvey House, hot springs, and ties to Teddy Roosevelt and Doc Holiday. A perfect episode for anyone craving the authentic over the glitz.
3. June 8, 2025 — South Valley Albuquerque & Forgotten Route 66
On this program I chatted with Bianca Encinias of South Valley Main Street about the La Familia Farmers Market, Chile Ristra Harvest Festival, walking tours, and neighborhood restoration—all along an early alignment of Route 66 south of Albuquerque. It was culture, history, and community building inspiration rolled into one episode.
4. May 25, 2025 — AAA Route 66 Road Fest in Tulsa
This morning we enjoyed a delightful visit with Wade Bray, the organizer behind the AAA Route 66 Road Fest in Tulsa. We discussed immersive events to celebrate the Route 66 centennial, why anyone in love with Americana should head to Tulsa for this amazing event, and ways that communities can build future tourism on heritage themes.
5. May 11, 2025 — Redevelopment in Kingman, Arizona
Joined by Lenore Knudtson and Tim Webb, we explored how they transformed an entire derelict block along Route 66 into a destination. Kingman’s Tin Can Alley on 66 was just one part of the story. Our wide ranging conversation included discussion about turning vacant lots into thriving businesses, vibrant mural art, an ice cream shop, the origins of Mudd on 66, and much more. It was a program that provided proof that small‑town revitalization is possible with vision, grit, and road‑trip spirit.
Bonus shout‑out: April 6, 2025, episode with Matt Young of Hive Five Meadery—a bold reinvention of a 1940s gas station and service garage into a Route 66‑themed meadery! A modern story with historic roots in Kingman’s renaissance.
