They are an opportunity to engage the people who keep it alive, and experience the enduring charm of communities that still believe in neon dreams and two-lane tales.
Here are a few events we recommend adding to your travel itinerary:
AAA Route 66 Road Fest – Tulsa, Oklahoma
Dates: June 21–22, 2025

Get ready for a family-friendly blowout in the heart of Oklahoma. Backed by AAA, the Route 66 Road Fest is part celebration, part museum, and all about community and history.
It’s where classic cars shine, storytellers roam, and travelers gather to swap tales, all in air conditioned comfort There’s immersive museum-style exhibits tracing the history of Route 66 decade by decade, live music, and a showcase of American road culture. It is a celebration of the great American road trip.

The conference brings together historians, preservationists, tourism professionals, and enthusiasts who share a passion for Route 66. Think TED Talk meets roadside diner chat.
Held in Joliet this year, it’s an intellectual and inspirational pit stop where you can stir ideas and deepen appreciation for this beloved highway. The keynote speaker is Rhys Martin, president of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association.
If you’re someone who believes Route 66 is more than just asphalt, you need to add this event in Joliet to the calendar.
Birthplace of Route 66 Festival – Springfield, Missouri
Dates: August 8–10, 2025

Springfield is where it all began. This is the birthplace of Route 66. And every August, they throw a festival that’s part homecoming, part street party, and 100% Mother Road magic.
The Birthplace of Route 66 Festival features one of the largest classic car parades in the Midwest, live music across multiple stages, and special guests from the world of Route 66 lore. The vibe? Think Elvis, chrome, fried pickles, and the warm, unmistakable embrace of community pride.
As a teaser this event often attracts more than 65,000 people!
